Jul 15, 2004 · I have a 1998 Chevy K1500 that I need to install a brake controller in. It has a hitch from the factory, but no wiring. I've been told that there should be all the wires necessary at the rear of the truck wrapped up in a harness.
To install a brake controller in your 1998 GMC C/K series 1500, there are a couple of items you will need in addition to the brake controller. If the truck does not have a 4-Way trailer connector, you will need to add one like part #118315.

In order to find the correct wire on the brake switch to connect to the red wire on a brake controller, you will need to use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 if needed. Probe the wires on the brake switch located above the brake pedal.

Jan 20, 2021 · Look under your brake booster. There should be a coiled up 2 wire set: blue and orange. That'll be the 12V battery wire, and the trailer brake. Trace them to the back. Then you can buy a 4 pin, T-shaped 4 flat adaptor. Easiest thing is to cut off the 4 flat connector, throw in the blue & orange, and a wire to reverse (center pin on the 7-wire).
