Jun 8, 2014 · The St. Pierre Cathedral was originally constructed in the 12th century as the parish church of the City of Geneva. It was appropriated by the Protestants shortly before Calvin arrived, and later rededicated for use by the Reformed Church of Switzerland.

There is evidence that a cathedral and a set of buildings with a religious purpose have been present at this site since the 4th century CE.
