May 2, 2024 · Susan Stroman, American director and choreographer who amassed numerous Tony Awards and other honors for her innovative work in musical theater. Her notable productions included Show Boat, The Music Man, The Producers, Young Frankenstein, and Bullets Over Broadway.
Stroman won her fourth and fifth Tony Awards for direction and choreography, becoming the first woman to win both awards in the same night. She was also the second woman ever to win Best Direction of a Musical after Julie Taymor in 1998.
