The Texas State University System (TSUS) is a Public university system in Texas. It was created in 1911 to oversee the state's normal schools. It has since broadened its focus and comprises institutions of many different scopes. It is the only public university system in the state without a flagship university.
Texas State University (TXST) is a public research university with its main campus in San Marcos, Texas and another campus in Round Rock. Since its establishment in 1899, the university has grown to be one of the largest universities in the United States.
Established in 1911, the Texas State University System is the oldest university system in Texas. The system is unique in that it is the only horizontal state university system in Texas. The system has no flagship university. The system consists of four universities and three two-year colleges.
Texas State University is part of the Texas State University System and is governed by a nine-member Board of Regents. Other universities in the system include Sam Houston State University, Lamar University, and Sul Ross State University. Dr. Denise M Trauth has served as president of Texas State since August of 2002.
History. 1879. On April 21, the anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto, Governor O.M. Roberts signs a bill establishing the Sam Houston Normal Institute. 1899. On May 10, the Legislature creates the Southwest Texas Normal School in San Marcos. The school opened its doors to 303 students four years later. 1909.
