His volatile personality made him infamous, being called the "Swabian Henry VIII " by historians.
Ulrich, Duke of Württemberg (Herzog von Württemberg), 1498-1519 and 1534-1550, was b. 8 February 1487 and given the name Eitel Heinrich (his name was changed to Ulrich in 1493). He was the son of Heinrich of Württemberg, Count of Württemberg-Mömpelgard (d. 1519) and Elisabeth von Zweibrücken-Bitsch (d. 1487), who died shortly after his birth.

Ulrich I (c. 1222 – 25 February 1265), nicknamed the Founder (German: der Stifter), was Count of Württemberg from 1241 until his death in 1265.
After the death of Maximilian in January 1519 the Swabian league interfered in the struggle, and Ulrich was driven from Württemberg, which was afterwards sold by the league to the emperor Charles V.
Ulrich died in Alsace on 11 July 1344 and was later buried in the Stiftskirche of Stuttgart. Marriage and children. Ulrich was married to Sophie of Pfirt. Sons from this marriage were Eberhard II and Ulrich IV, who ruled together with his brother until 1361. References Citations
