Cecil Coghill Maddrell was born on month day 1882, in birth place, to Robert John Coghill Maddrell and Katherine Laura Louisa Maddrell (born Knapp). Cecil had 10 siblings: Violet Coghill Hussey- Cooper (born Maddrell), Mona Evelyn Coghill Osborne (born Maddrell) and 8 other siblings.
Both the Coghill and Maddrell families returned to Bedervale. Elizabeth and Robert Maddrell lived at a nearby cottage at Braidwood Farm for several years and assisted the Coghills with the management of the farm. In 1853 John Coghill died at the age of 68 and the Maddrells inherited Bedervale.

His father, Edward (known as Montague) was a Master Mariner and a Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Reserve, who worked as a second officer for the P&O Steam Navigation Company in Australia.
In 1848 Robert Maddrell, married Elizabeth Coghill, daughter of Capt. Coghill. They lived in a cottage at Mona before inheriting 'Bedervale' from John Coghill. Their eldest son Robert John Coghill Madrell married Kate Knapp in 1873, and built the original wooden house 'Mona', where they had 14 children.
