Virginia Hayes is a teenager who murdered an older man Richard Schiller, after being romantically involved with him.
Virginia was estranged from her father due to her mother Annabel's alcoholism and hadn't seen him for a long time. When her mother let a travel writer named Richard stay in her home as a tenant, Virginia started having romantic interactions with him. One day, Richard decided to leave for another trip. Virginia begged to go with him but Richard refused, saying he needed to "travel lightly". Furious and heartbroken, Virginia murdered him by suffocating him and then stuffed her underwear in his mouth before duct taping his mouth.
Virginia's mother's boyfriend became a suspect, when Virginia tells the Special Victims Unit that he raped her and that Richard had intervened at one point. Eventually, it is discovered Virginia had lied about the sexual assault and revealed to Detectives Benson and Stabler what she had done to Richard, before being arrested and imprisoned.
