Some (but not all) dogs also benefit from the administration of a hormone (desmopressin acetate) that temporarily decreases bleeding, but this is not recommended for routine use.

Von Willebrand's Disease is a common inherited bleeding disorder caused by a lack of von Willebrand factor protein (vWF) which helps the platelets form clots and stabilizes Factor VIII in the clotting process. Severity: Severity is mild to severe. Requires a diagnosis by a veterinarian. Resolves: typically never, this is a chronic problem.
