They both take use of long compositions and that's around where the similarities end. Post-rock is all about saying as much as possible with as little as possible.
Post-progressive is a type of rock music distinguished from vintage progressive rock styles, specifically 1970s prog. Post-progressive draws upon newer developments in popular music and the avant-garde since the mid-1970s. It especially draws from ethnic music and minimalism, elements which were new to rock music.
While yes, more buttons = more skill required to optimise the rotation and utilize them when necessary, it doesn't mean that you can't increase the skill requirements while also decreasing the amount of buttons needed.
As a definition, post-prog is a part of the new wave of progressive rock, although it does not constitute every modern prog band. It is usually shown here on RYM as alternative rock primary and progressive rock secondary (sometimes both primary), although neither genre is truly accurate in my opinion.
