     You may be thinking of C++/CLI which, unlike C#, allows the user to declare a "value class" or a "ref class." In C#, any class you declare will implicitly be a reference class - only built-in types, structs, and enums have value semantics.      Value classes have very little functionality compared to ref classes, and are useful for "plain old data"; that is, data which has no identity. Since you're copying the data when you assign one to another, the system provides you with a default (and mandatory) copy constructor which simply copies the data over to the other object.

     To convert a value class into a reference class (thereby putting it on the garbage-collected heap) you can "box" it.

     To decide whether a class you are writing is one or the other, ask yourself whether it has an identity. That usually means that it has some state, or has an identifier or a name, or a notion of its own context (for example a node pointing to nearby nodes).

     If it doesn't, it's probably a value class.

     In C#, however, value classes are declared as "structs".

     Windows forms is build upon a object hierarchy. All the UI controls that use a ControlTemplate to define their appearance is inherited from Control class. In OO this type of parent class inheritance is called as base class.

     if you look at the Object Hierarchy it looks as follows

     - System.Windows.Forms.Control   -System.Windows.Forms.ScrollableControl     -System.Windows.Forms.ContainerControl        -System.Windows.Forms.Form

     So Form is a Control. Whatever Control can do Form can do it too because its inherited. Hope it clears out your question.

     A destructor in C# overrides System.Object.Finalize method. You have to use destructor syntax to do so. Manually overriding Finalize will give you an error message.

     Basically what you are trying to do with your Finalize method declaration is hiding the method of the base class. It will cause the compiler to issue a warning which can be silenced using the new modifier (if it was going to work). The important thing to note here is that you can't both override and declare a new member with identical name at the same time so having both a destructor and a Finalize method will result in an error (but you can, although not recommended, declare a public new void Finalize() method if you're not declaring a destructor).

     parent and child are more abstract relations. They are used to describe hierarchy, and thus can be used in all kinds of trees (or sometimes DAGs). The tree of class inheritance is one such tree, so calling them parent and child is not wrong.      base and derived is used only for inheritance, and thus more precise. This terminology is preferred, since it's less ambiguous.

     Yes, a static class is technically a type. It can have members (fields, methods, events). A namespace can only hold types (and it's not considered a "type" by itself; typeof(System) is a compile-time error).

     There's no direct equivalent to adding a using directive for a namespace for a static class. You can, however, declare aliases:

     using ShortName = ReallyReallyLongStaticClassName;

     and use

     ShortName.Member

     when referring its members.

     Additionally, you can use static classes to declare extension methods on other types and use them directly without referring to the class name explicitly:

     public static class IntExtensions { public static int Square(this int i) { return i * i; }}

     and use it like:

     int i = 2;int iSquared = i.Square(); // note that the class name is not mentioned here.

     Of course, you'll have to add a using directive for the namespace containing the class to use the extension method if the class is not declared in the root or current namespace.
