Alhambra, Palace of the Moorish monarchs of Granada, Spain, built (1238–1358) on a plateau above the city. Its name (Arabic: “the red”) may refer to the colour of the sun-dried bricks used in its outer walls.
The court of the lions may probably be the most characteristic image of the Alhambra of Granada. It is surrounded by 124 marble columns of Macael. There are four rooms surrounded by the court from where a small canal gushes which flows to the fountain of the lions. The fountains represent the four rivers of the Paradise.
