After it got cancelled on Fox Victor Fresco basically just retooled the characters a little, creating Better Off Ted, notably replacing Andy with a handsome single father leading man. Both shows are equally brilliant at mocking the faceless corporate office culture of yesteryear.
When Ted's nanny calls out sick, he is forced to take his 10-year-old daughter, Rose, to work with him. There Veronica bonds with her and shows the youngster first-hand about running a corporation in the mean-spirited way.
I think the point was that they aired together on the same network. Better off Ted led into LOST and was up against Lie to Me on Fox, Gary Unmarried on CBS, America's Next Top Model on CW, and The Chopping Block on NBC. All those shows are now cancelled and besides ANTM they had low ratings. The show didn't have competition for its target audience.
