It began in the Fall of 2008 with "Pokerface" by Lady Gaga, went from 2009-2012 with the 2011 being the Peak Year and Ended with "Royals" by Lorde shifting it into the EDM Hipster Era. Reply.
2012 was the beginning of its decline and ultimately the end thanks to a bunch of new musical trends growing extremely popular that were already emerging in 2011, as well as the Electropop sound getting watered down noticeably.
I think it began around the middle of 2008 and kicked into high gear at the end of the year. 2006 and 2007 were transitional between the crunk era and the electro era.
