Sep 19, 2009 · Calea Victoriei, a major street running north-south in downtown Bucharest, has many bookstores, some of the best hotels in Bucharest, and fashion stores. This elegant, tree-lined, meandering street is a quieter walk than the thundering thoroughfare of Magheru-Balcescu-Bratianu.
A wonderful collection of superb attractions are on or adjacent to this grand thoroughfare that extends from Piata Victoriei (Victoria Square) to the lovely Dambovita River. Piata Victoriei has monumental buildings, a prime example being Victoria Palace.
Calea Victoriei which translates to Victory Street, is named after Romania’s victory in the War on Independence against the Ottomans in 1878. It is one of the oldest boulevards in Bucharest and a must-see attraction in Bucharest.
