Mar 18, 2016 · Technically speaking, Star Island is located within the borders of the town of Rye. It is the second largest of the group of nine rocky islands lying nearly 10 miles southeast of the mouth of the Piscataqua River.
Star Island is located ten miles off the coast of New Hampshire. It is the second largest of the nine islands that make up the Isles of Shoals and its historic Oceanic House and adjacent buildings become the village home for thousands of visitors each summer.
Star Island is in the Town of Rye Historic District and on the National and State of New Hampshire Historic Registers. The Isles of Shoals reveal numerous traces of the great ice age, which ended some 10,000 years ago and marked the islands with erratic boulders and a rounding off of the rock masses and scouring of the soil.
