However, a number of actors including Worthington, Saldaña, Lang, and Weaver are listed as returning in the next film. There will likely also be some new characters to meet in the next Avatar movie, but until 2024 rolls around Avatar 2 has enough names to remember.

- Jason Momoa - Arthur Curry/Aquaman. Jason Momoa returns as Arthur Curry (aka Aquaman) for, presumably, one last time in the upcoming DC sequel. At the end of the first film, Arthur becomes king of Atlantis and protector of the seas, and this responsibility is pushed to the forefront in Aquaman 2.
- Amber Heard - Mera. Despite the controversies she faced with her husband Johnny Depp and fan backlash, Amber Heard returns as Mera in Aquaman 2. In August 2022, The Wrap reported that Heard will only have "20 minutes" of screen time in the sequel, indicating that she has a minor role.
- Patrick Wilson - Orm Marius. After serving as the main villain in the first movie, Patrick Wilson's Orm Marius returns in Aquaman 2. Aside from sporting a new look, Orm (reluctantly) teams up with Momoa's Aquaman to try and defeat Black Manta, who is possessed by King Necrus.
- Dolph Lundgren - King Nereus. Dolph Lundgren makes his DCEU comeback as King Nereus, Mera's father and the leader of Xebel. Lundgren said that the sequel is "better" than its predecessor, teasing that the "script is stronger and it's more exciting."

- Jake Sully: Sam Worthington. 20th Century Studios. Sam Worthington returns as Jake Sully, who first appeared in Avatar in human form, before falling in love with Neytiri, siding with the Na’vi against the RDA, and leaving his body behind to permanently become one of the Na’vi.
- Neytiri: Zoe Saldaña. 20th Century Studios. Zoe Saldaña reprises her role as Neytiri, the future Tsahìk of her clan and Jake’s husband, with whom she shares kids in the sequel.
- Kiri: Sigourney Weaver. 20th Century Studios. Sigourney Weaver plays Kiri, the daughter of Jake and Neytiri. Weaver originally played Dr. Grace Augustine in the first film, who died during the RDA assault on Hometree.
