Among his major works are Tristan und Isolde (1865), Parsifal (1882), and The Ring of the Nibelung (1869–76).
Wilhelm Richard Wagner (/ ˈ v ɑː ɡ n ər / VAHG-nər; German: [ˈʁɪçaʁt ˈvaːɡnɐ] ⓘ; 22 May 1813 – 13 February 1883) was a German composer, theatre director, polemicist, and conductor who is chiefly known for his operas (or, as some of his mature works were later known, "music dramas").
