William Filmer-Sankey is a past Secretary of the Association. Having start life as an archaeologist in Suffolk, and written a thesis on the meaning of finger rings in the Early Medieval Germanic world, he moved to be Director of the Victorian Society.
The Snape Anglo-Saxon cemetery stands in the Sandlings area of east Suffolk. The first recorded excavations on the site were conducted in 1862–3 by the landowner, Septimus Davidson and some friends.
