William Newsom was born about 1614. He immigrated to Virginia in 1635 possibly from Ireland. He died between 1657 and 1667 in Virginia. He married three times: 1) Penelope Ramsey; 2) Sarah Fisher; and 3) Elizabeth Wilson. He probably had a fourth wife, Gertrude. He had two children, William and Alice. Covers his descendants.
William Newsom, Jr., planter, of James City, later Surry Co., Virginia, was the son of William Newsom, Sr. of Newsom Hall, Lancashire, England. He is likely the "William Neesum" who came to Virginia aboard the "George" in 1635 (cf.
