When exact time is important, use numerals with “a.m.” or “p.m.” (“2:33 p.m.”); otherwise, use words (“two o’clock,” “two thirty,” “half past two”). In certain settings, the 24-hour system is used to show exact time (“14:33” or “1433 hours”).

Noon is neither a.m. nor p.m. Midnight is a part of the day that is ending, not the day that is beginning. When expressing times for “noon” and “midnight” it is best not to use numerals (12:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.). Avoid the redundant 12:00 noon and 12:00 midnight.
The 24-hour clock is a way of telling the time in which the day runs from midnight to midnight and is divided into 24 hours, numbered from 0 to 23. It does not use a.m. or p.m.
