IIRC Inoki wanted Andre to teach Maeda a lesson, because Akira beat the shit out of and injured Riki Choshu during a match. This is the result.
Inoki maybe suggested that a drunk Andre take out Maeda. He didn't communicate the finish to Maeda before the match, and staggered around the ring attempting to grapple the smaller, faster man, who instead peppered him with leg kicks. Eventually the Giant relented and lay down for a pinfall.
