Born on September 10, 1955 in San Jose, Costa Rica, Giannina Facio is the daughter of Ana Franco Calzia and Gonzalo Facio Segreda. Her father, who expired in 2018, was a well-known Costa Rican lawyer, politician, and diplomat who spent a number of years in Guatemala.
From his second wife, Ana Franco Calzia, he had three more children (Ana Catalina, Giannina and Carla). From his third wife Julia Nubia Salmerón Mejía he had no offspring. [6] Facio died at the age of 99 on 24 January 2018 in Escazu.
