The following is a list of cast members who voiced or portrayed characters appearing in the Batman films. The list is sorted by film and character, as some characters may have been portrayed by multiple actors. Actors Lewis Wilson and Robert Lowery first appeared as the character in the serial films, Batman (1943) and Batman and Robin (1949).
- Adam West. Adam West kicked it all off by appearing as the first live action Batman in the 1960s ABC series and subsequent 1966 feature film.
- Michael Keaton. The character was dormant in live action until director Tim Burton’s 1989 blockbuster adaptation, starring Michael Keaton who at the time was a controversial choice.
- Val Kilmer. After Keaton opted not to return for a third film, Val Kilmer took the mantle in “Batman Forever” (1995), directed by Joel Schumacher.
- George Clooney. Kilmer was one-and-done, so George Clooney was enlisted to star in 1997’s colorful and campy “Batman and Robin.”

Batman (1943) Main article: Batman (serial) Batman was a 15-chapter serial film released in 1943 by Columbia Pictures and was the first appearance of the comic book character on film. The serial starred Lewis Wilson [9] as Batman and Douglas Croft as Robin.
