The Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) was established in 1978, and started participating in the Summer Olympic Games in 1980 (Moscow Russia). The BNOC is not only responsible for facilitating the participation of Team Botswana to the Olympic Games, but it is the body in charge of Commonwealth Games for Botswana.

2020. 2024. Botswana has competed in 11 Summer Olympics. Botswana's debut was at the 1980 Summer Olympics, in Moscow. They have yet to compete in a Winter Olympics. Botswana won its inaugural medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics with Nijel Amos getting a silver in the 800m.
