You're free to disagree with the creative choices being made but I don't think the grade was poorly done at all. It more than adequately got across the stark, uncompromising tone of Vaughn's character and the world of the film. Whether it was the harsh blue of the opening scene at the garage, or the burnt yellows and browns of cell block 99.

yes the whole thing was made up. The kidnapping was to get him to do all the things he did to get to cell block 99 so they could torture him.
