The picnic pad, pathways and parking areas are paved and accessible. The spring at Capulin Spring runs year-round and is a much visited spot by birders, especially in the dry season, because thirsty birds flock to this area for a nice, cool drink of water.

Our first concern is pubilic safety for recreationists using Capulin Snow Play Area. Please use plastic sleds or tubes only and note that there is a $3.00 cash or check only amenity fee.

The east side of the Sandias with the ski area to the left, as seen from Capulin Peak. Like the Tecolote Trail, this route provides an easy ramble (about 1 1/2 miles round trip) that leads to great views. The route is at an elevation where, given enough moisture, the wildflowers run riot.
