It is refreshing to read a book on abortion that refuses any pretension of neutrality, and the sociologist Carole Joffe has composed an unapologetic paean to the abortionists she sees as heroes. The rejection of a middle ground, however, is her book’s only good feature.
Carole E. Joffe is an American sociologist and reproductive rights advocate who has published several books on abortion. In 2013, she was awarded the Society of Family Planning Lifetime Achievement Award for her research on the sociology of abortion and family planning.

Resisting both physical attacks and widespread policy proscriptions, mission-driven abortion care providers continue working to help their patients. “Some will rob you with a six gun, some with a fountain pen.” This line from an old Woody Guthrie song is an apt description of the vulnerability of abortion providers in the United States.
