The Charles River ( Massachusett: Quinobequin ), sometimes called the River Charles or simply the Charles, is an 80-mile-long (129 km) river in eastern Massachusetts.
The river follows a winding course (south, northeast, north, east, northwest, and east) before dividing Cambridge and Boston to the west side of the harbour. It is navigable for about 10 miles (16 km) from there to Watertown .

Aside from the nearby history (an 1818 granite Powder Magazine, the oldest building on the Charles River Basin; and the 1912 boathouse of the Riverside Boat Club, the last remaining working mans’ club on the river), there’s a free, outdoor, Olympic-sized swimming pool complete with a newly restored bathhouse.
