The Curonian (Courish) Spit ( Lithuanian: Kuršių nerija; Russian: Ку́ршская коса́; German: Kurische Nehrung; Latvian: Kuršu kāpas) is a 98-kilometre (61 mi) long, thin, curved sand- dune spit that separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site shared by Lithuania and Russia.
Curonian Spit National Park. On this bewitching tendril of land, winds caress the sand dunes, pine scents the breeze and amber washes up on beaches. Designated a national park (Kuršių Nerijos Nacionalinis Parkas) in 1991, Curonian Spit trails across the Baltic Sea from Lithuania to Russian territory Kaliningrad.
May 13, 2024 · Curonian Spit is a 98 km-long piece of land perched between the Curonian Lagoon in the east and the Baltic Sea in the west. It’s covered with pine forests and sand dunes. At its narrowest point, the land is just 400 meters wide; the widest stretch is about 4km.
The Curonian Spit National Natural Park is one of the must-see places. You can get here from Zelenogradsk by bus 210. It will take about an hour to get here. We got off before the final stop at Duna Efa. There is parking for cars and a large number of souvenir shops, as well as small cafes.

Many people overlook the Curonian Spit as the coast sits a fair distance from Vilnius, Lithuania’s capital.
The Curonian Spit is a narrow sand dune peninsula, preserved from erosion through human efforts since the 19th century. After earlier settlements were buried by encroaching sand that came to the surface due to logging, the Great Dune Ridge that shapes this land was reinforced with trees and shrubs to prevent it from moving inland.
