A lot of those guitars were built one at a time – true custom orders – helping to create the handmade mystique of the southern California hot rod guitar.
Back in 1976 a young engineer named David Schecter opened a small guitar repair shop in Van Nuys, California. Every successful business needs a niche, and in Schecter’s case, he and his crew specialised in making replacement guitar parts for existing models.
In 1976, David Schecter opened Schecter Guitar Research, a repair shop in Van Nuys, California. The shop manufactured replacement guitar necks and bodies, complete pickup assemblies, bridges, pickguards, tuners, knobs, potentiometers, and other miscellaneous guitar parts.
