Richard David Shepherd CBE FRSA FGRA (25 April 1931 – 19 September 2017) was a British artist and one of the world's most outspoken conservationists. He was most famous for his paintings of steam locomotives (he owned a number of them) and wildlife , although he also often painted aircraft, portraits (notably The Queen Mother ) and landscapes.

David Shepherd was a British painter and conservationist best known for his wildlife paintings. Shepherd was born in Hendon, in northwest London, in 1931. After completing secondary school in Buckinghamshire, he hoped to travel to Kenya to become a game warden.
