Philip A. Hart Plaza, in downtown Detroit, is a city plaza along the Detroit River. It is located more or less on the site at which Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac landed in 1701 when he founded Fort Pontchartrain du Détroit, the settlement that became Detroit.
Right in the heart of the city, and named for the late U.S. Sen. Philip A. Hart, this Isamu Noguchi-designed plaza is the site of Detroit's summer-long riverfront festivals and the Ford Detroit International Jazz Festival.
Hart Plaza is a pretty big square just by the Detroit Riverwalk. It offers great downtown and river views. Also there're several great monuments around it - to Ford, Cadillac and the magnificent Underground railroad sculpture.
