Edward VI died on the sixth of July 1553 at Greenwich Palace, aged just fifteen. The cause of death has been the subject of much speculation and mystery over many centuries. However, historians generally agree that Edward VI’s most probable cause of death was tuberculosis or “consumption”, as it was called in Tudor England.
The cause of Edward VI's death is not certain. As with many royal deaths in the 16th century, rumours of poisoning abounded, but no evidence has been found to support these. The Duke of Northumberland, whose unpopularity was underlined by the events that followed Edward's death, was widely believed to have ordered the imagined poisoning.

Some of the symptoms he exhibited such as the swelling of the legs, the failing pulse, the falling out of hair and nails could have been indicative of a reactivation of tuberculosis.

Henry was buried in Saint George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, next to his late third wife, Jane Seymour, and he was duly succeeded by Edward who became Edward VI at his coronation in Westminster Abbey on 20 February 1547 CE.

As he was a minor a Regency was created and his uncle, Edward Seymour, later Duke of Somerset, became Protector. Burial He died of tuberculosis at Greenwich Palace on 6th July 1553 and was buried beneath the original altar of Henry VII's Lady Chapel (designed by Pietro Torrigiano) on 8th August.
