In a fury, Collins shot and killed him with a handgun he given her as a gift. Collins was subsequently charged with second-degree murder, later to be found guilty by a jury of criminally negligent homicide. Per The New York Daily News, Collins called the incident "an accident during a 6 a.m. firearms training session."
Pappalardi was shot and killed by his wife, Gail Collins Pappalardi, on April 17, 1983, in their apartment on the East Side of Manhattan, with a derringer he had given her as a gift a few months previously. She was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and was found guilty of the lesser criminally negligent homicide.
Pappalardi, the former bassist-singer-songwriter for Mountain and producer, had been shot in the neck and killed by his wife (and Mountain lyricist) Gail Collins the previous day. (I didn’t know about it immediately because, if you’ll recall, there was no internet in 1983.)

Felix Pappalardi, producer for Cream and later the bassist for Mountain, was killed by his wife when she caught him with another woman. After producing Cream and others, he became the bassist for one of rock's first hard rock bands.
On April 17, 1983, Gail shot Felix once in the neck with a .38-caliber Derringer. Police recovered the weapon and pronounced Felix dead. Pappalardi was charged with second-degree murder.
