Article History. Guadalupe, county, central New Mexico, U.S., an arid plains area dotted with hills and red mesas and marked by a few arroyos. The county lies mostly in the Pecos River valley, rising in the east to a High Plains region. The Pecos makes an irregular curve through the county from northwest to south, exiting at Sumner Lake.

Santa Rosa is a city in and the county seat of Guadalupe County, New Mexico, United States. [3] The population was 2,848 at the 2010 census. [4] It lies between Albuquerque and Tucumcari, situated on the Pecos River at the intersection of Interstate 40 and U.S. Route 54 and 84.
Guadalupe County was created by the territorial legislature in 1891. The name honors Our Lady of Guadalupe, the vision of the Virgin Mary, who appeared to Juan Diego near Mexico City in 1531. SANTA ROSA IS KNOWN AS THE "CITY OF NATURAL LAKES"
