Happy Kuso Life is a manga written and illustrated by Harada. It has been serialized in Qpa. Volume 1 was released November 15, 2019. A drama CD involving Yoshiki Nakajima with Toshiki Masuda, et al. has been released in 2020 with a second one by CROWN WORKS made available in 2021.
Note: While Happy Kuso Life is categorized in the comedy genre it draws heavily upon dark humor where light is made out of assault. A character is made to apologize to his abuser where the sheer ridiculousness of the scenario is supposedly meant to be comical. Further that other characters are largely indifferent to it or see such actions as displays of love is at odds with the character's reaction.
Kyoutarou Kasuya has just been exiled to a remote rural area for having sparked a scandal in his company. It is in this hot and inert countryside that he meets his new neighbor, Kuzuya. But Kasuya himself, selfish, deceitful and devoid of empathy, has one thing in common with his neighbor: they both like to receive.
Yoshiyuki Kuzuya
As Yoshiyuki begins to raise whether the rumors for Kyoutarou's transfer are true he mentions how a different story was heard in response to what was said. Yoshiyuki pouts as he divulges how the reason was because Kyoutarou was playing hard in the office late at night. When Kyoutarou comments on Yajima and Botan he replies he does not think they are of that disposition. After detailing Leo's aggression every day when they were in the same class back in junior high, Yoshiyuki thought he could visit Kyoutarou for him to get rid of his anxieties. Although he is jobless and absolutely loves reverse-anal, Yoshiyuki recounts his abused past with Leo however there is no sympathy from Kyoutarou who indeed seems to enjoy the notion, so Yoshiyuki says he is only telling him this since Kyoutarou went through something even more embarrassing. After shouting what Leo had done and crying over it, the one person he turned to, Kyoutarou, was the one who ignored Yoshiyuki's circumstances and he was blamed for what happened to him. Hearing that if only he was in a relationship and got to know his partner properly then he would not have ended up sleeping with the whole family, Yoshiyuki in his state complies with the order and apologizes to Botan, Yajima and Leo. After they leave and he is left with Kyoutarou he continues to cry.
Kyoutarou Kasuya
Described as pleasant looking but very rough-spoken, it is Kyoutarou's actions that result in him being transferred. Considering Sakura to be a proud single flower blooming in this countryside, Kyoutarou finds her alluring and cannot get enough of that occasionally sadistic expression of hers. With his arm taken by Yoshiyuki he questions how they can understand one another when he is unemployed. With his underwear hanging to dry, Kyoutarou sits without pants as he says he had lost his dignity as a man twice in one day. When the news reports that molesters have been photographing woman and sharing the pictures, Kyoutarou deems them trash. Seeing Yoshiyuki run in fear from Leo, he wonders what is with him. While stunned at seeing Yoshiyuki with Leo it is on account of being envious. Kyoutarou is questioned by Leo whether he loves Yoshiyuki and reacts like a robot just getting to know about emotions. Walking back with Yoshiyuki and saying how even if he does nothing someone is going to come thrusting him anyway, Kyoutarou asks is that not fine. Hearing the abuse compared to beastiality and asked to either protect Yoshiyuki or take his place, Yoshiyuki answers that he guesses Leo thinks he is good for him thereby placing an abuser's needs above that of a victim's requirement for assistance.
Tsubaki
Kyoutarou's ex-girlfriend who wore a strap-on as he wanted. Their encounter was photographed and her father, the Director transferred Kyoutarou. Consequently their planned marriage was cancelled.
Kyoutarou Kasuya is in a meeting with the Director and has his fate changed. Now he surveys the countryside and who he judgmentally calls his weird neighbour Yoshiyuki. It has been one week since Kyoutarou was demoted and transferred, and working with Tagami he is exasperated at him and others admiring rhinoceros beetles. Heading to visit Sakura's establishment with Tagami he is introduced to Yajima and Yoshiyuki is also there. Moving to the topic of Kyoutarou's transfer, Yoshiyuki minces no words in stating how the reason for Kyoutarou's demotion was because he had his girlfriend put on a fake penis where the act of him being penetrated was photographed. Kyoutarou is greatly upset and heads to leave then resign from here. Yoshiyuki takes his arm and states he understands how Kyoutarou is feeling but in the context of enjoying the act itself.
As Yoshiyuki helps Kyoutarou to his home, with him having forgotten his keys Kyoutarou joins Yoshiyuki at his. With them discussing girls and wanting to be penetrated, Yoshiyuki suggests they try it out. While Kyoutarou gives a show of hesitation, they do it. Rather than compare it to past experiences Kyoutarou does not want Yoshiyuki to speak, just proceed. This and the heavy criticism on how he is doing puts Yoshiyuki off who also just wants to receive. By morning they discuss their work related plans and goals involving finding someone so they can receive it every day. As a bird overhead defecates, the droppings splatter over the "happy life" drawn in the sand where it is commented what its new meaning is now.
Out in town Kyoutarou views photos of male parts on his phone before Yoshyuki finds him. When Kyoutarou does not want Yoshiyuki near him and in turn is questioned whether he would feel embarrassed given his past actions, he is violent to him. Yajima joins them and wonders what they are doing before leaving to meet a woman who Yoshiyuki recognizes as Botan. When Yoshiyuki sees that Leo has joined them he runs and Kyoutarou departs shortly after. At his house Kyoutarou refuses to let Yoshiyuki remain when he asks to stay with him. Sitting with him, Yoshiyuki shares his concerns at feeling bullied by Leo. To deal with the anxiety he and Kyoutarou are intimate yet Yoshiyuki sees Leo watching through the window. By morning as Kyoutarou heads to work, Yoshiyuki thinks how he does not want to run across Leo, who is watching him from behind a nearby tree.
After Tagami shows off a rhinoceros beetle to his bug catching friends he presents it to Kyoutarou to celebrate his promotion. Taking that to Sakura, she mentions how Yoshiyuki said that Kyoutarou was planning on going back to the main office someday. Botan enters and after praising Kyoutarou he is happy with the attention from the ladies. Merrily heading home Kyoutarou enters Yoshiyuki's place to find him being attacked by Leo. Watching with an envied look, Leo then leaves. Kyoutarou unties Yoshiyuki and does not see the traumatic side of the assault. Wishing to hear more details, Kyoutarou learns how Yoshiyuki was bullied by Leo in school which culminated in Leo assaulting him before a marathon event. Consequently where Yoshiyuki intended to win the race to restore his reputation after bullying had eroded it, instead he experienced diarrhoea from the assault which made things worse. The next day when a class member Yuri told him of what she knew, Yoshiyuki's heart was broken. Where Kyoutarou is indifferent to the violence and focuses on the physical act that he feels he would enjoy, Yoshimura treats his inappropriate reaction in kind by raising how he has more to be embarrassed about. The atmosphere changes to a laughable one as they decide to have a heated discussion about who is the more embarrassing one all night long.
By morning they wake up on the couch. When Kyoutarou is preparing to go to work, Yoshiyuki asks what if Leo comes again so is told to get help from Yajima. As they feel good about freeing the rhinoceros beetle, Kyoutarou and Yoshiyuki see it caught by a bird. Kyoutarou says Yoshiyuki told him to release it and that is what happened as the outcome. Yoshiyuki replies that Kyoutarou chose the wrong spot and further bickering takes place. At the bar Yoshiyuki does tell Yajima and others gathered that he was harassed. Yajima reacts by offering him a job in the city to become employed and also escape the harassment. Borrowing the drawing room on the second floor of Sakura's building, Yajima calls someone to bring forward the developments, and Botan arrives.
Since Yoshiyuki dated Botan in school, Kyoutarou discusses how Yoshiyuki slept with his ex-girlfriend's dad, Yajima. Then Botan is joined by her brother Leo who is revealed as Yajima's son. The awkward situation, then unease disappears when Yoshiyuki breaks down and reports that Leo is the one who has been assaulting him. He is further upset since the job Yajima was giving him, which was to be an escape from the harassment and his chance at employment, is now going to involve him working under Leo in the city. When Yajima assures Yoshiyuki can have whatever job he likes, Kyoutarou turns on Yoshimura and after striking and yelling at him he orders him to apologize to the family having blamed Yoshiyuki for everything he experienced. The girl Yoshiyuki was happily dating but had to break up with because Leo told him to do so, Yajima who was intimate with Yoshiyuki by choice, and Leo who had violated him repeatedly over years, Kyoutarou ignored it all and ordered Yoshiyuki to be the one to say sorry. In his vastly deteriorated state and that it was Kyoutarou the one ordering it, Yoshiyuki bows and apologizes for everything. There is no comment further from anyone.

The manga started serialization in 2018 in Qpa magazine, published by Takeshobo.
