Curly Howard was born as Jerome Lester Horwitz on October 22, 1903 in New York City, to Jennie Gorovitz and Solomon Horwitz. He was the youngest of the five sons of his parents. His family was of Lithuanian Jewish descent.
Moe married Helen Schonberger on June 7, 1925. The couple had two children, Joan and Paul, born in 1927 and 1935 respectively.
Ed has 3 sons. Aaron Horwitz, a graduate from USC School of Cinema and Television, and Andy Horwitz, a graduate of the film program at Brooks Institute. Aaron and Andy occasionally work together on personal film projects. Their brother 'Jay Horwitz', Ed's youngest son is smart enough to stay out of the business.
