     Content-Disposition is treated by S3 as (somewhat) more like system metadata than custom/user-defined metadata, so it has its own argument.

     s3_object.copy_from(CopySource={'Bucket':bucket, 'Key':key}, ContentDisposition='attachment', Metadata=s3_object.metadata, MetadataDirective='REPLACE')-

     Note that you still need Metadata and MetadataDirective as shown, for this to work, but s3_object.metadata.update() is not required since you are not changing the custom metadata.

     You probably want to look at Kiwix which provides a complete offline Wikipedia experience with thumbnails. (~75 GiB)

     The reason there isn't any tarball because its huge. The "Fair Use" media (low resolution copyrighted images such as poster, album art, etc.) for English Wikipedia is 162 GiB. We also have a lot of media on Wikimedia Commons, 153 TiB, mostly unused.

     Limiting to only what's necessary for English Wikipedia, you'll need to download 5.1 TiB from 4,525,268 non-multimedia files.

     Thanks to Andrew for pointing me in the right direction. I needed to set up a session with requests. I assume this session passed a cookie back and forth so that the server could keep track of which was the latest captcha it had sent me. Just a guess, since this is all still a bit magical to me.

     reStructuredText supports implicit hyperlink targets. From the reStructuredText quick reference:

     If you're implementing your own chunked writer you have to actually connect to S3 during the chunked writes. As your code stands it is creating a file, writing the chunked connections to the file, and then attempting the upload to S3 which isn't direct.

     Perhaps you should check this article about how to use django-storages to do the direct upload

     Or you could start by taking a look at this project which claims to handle S3 uploads directly

     There are lots of things to consider when directly pushing the file to s3 including but not limited to security policies and region selection. At the end of the day they do use a chunked file upload strategy but there's a reason these are entire projects the community is working on.
