May 5, 2013 · A very average musical biography which wastes the talents of its star in a role she’s not really suited for, The I Don’t Care Girl has some fine dancing and a genial performance by pro David Wayne in its favor.
This film is perfect entertainment, though it ends on an incongruous note with the anticlimactic. New Orleans dance number, by far the worst in the film. The choreography and set design don't even make sense for a blues sequence in New Orleans. Criticism of the frame story is misguided in my view.
Sep 2, 2013 · The disjointed, scattershot structure of 1953's The I Don't Care Girl doesn't make a whole lot of sense in retelling the life of vaudeville star Eva Tanguay, however. It's a diverting watch for the vaudeville setting and the piano stylings of Oscar Levant (he plays beautifully).
