Symptoms of PIP usually do not occur immediately following seizures. Instead, the onset of psychosis happens within seven days after a seizure or cluster of seizures. Often, the symptoms emerge within 1-3 days.
Postictal psychosis has been estimated to affect between 6% and 10% of people with epilepsy. It involves psychiatric symptoms that occur within 7 days (usually within 1 to 3 days) after a seizure or seizure cluster in a person who does not have these symptoms at other times (or at least has them in a much milder form).
Importantly, PIP symptoms generally do not appear immediately after a seizure; instead, they begin several hours to 1 week after the seizure cluster ends, averaging 1 to 3 days afterward.
