The hydroxyl radical, • HO, is the neutral form of the hydroxide ion (HO –). Hydroxyl radicals are highly reactive and consequently short-lived; however, they form an important part of radical chemistry.
In many reports, the OH radical is assumed to be the main reactant for oxidation processes in photocatalysis, which is deduced from the correlation between the amount of OH radical generation and the photocatalytic reactivity.

Sodium hydroxide, also known as lye and caustic soda, is an inorganic compound with the formula NaOH. It is a white solid ionic compound consisting of sodium cations Na + and hydroxide anions OH −. Sodium hydroxide is a highly corrosive base and alkali that decomposes lipids and proteins at ambient temperatures and may cause severe chemical ...
Hydroxyl radicals are a highly reactive decomposition product of ozone and represent the main oxidant in AOPs. Examples of AOPs include chemical (O3 –H 2 O 2 ), photochemical (ultraviolet (UV)–H 2 O 2 ), and photocatalytic (UV–TiO 2) methods, among others. In all these cases, the reaction generates hydroxyl radicals.

The relatively small free energy barrier observed (∼4 kcal/mol) supports a conjecture that the H-transfer can be a very rapid process in water, in accord with very recent experimental results, and that this reaction can contribute significantly to OH* mobility in aqueous solution.

Jul 25, 2022 · Recent studies have indicated that the selectivity for surface-bound hydroxyl radicals is questionable and that the yield of the stable detectable product, formaldehyde, may be different for different reactive species.
