The Lonesome Dove Church is still in Texas to this day but when it was built in 1846 life was very different. This is a story of a minister and his son Isaac, their differences and the road they took to get the church built in the small sinful town of Grapevine, Texas.
In February 1846, residents living on the northern edge of the community organized the Lonesome Dove Baptist Church in the fall of that year. In 1847, members built a long log structure approximately four miles northwest of Grapevine in the Eastern Cross Timbers.
Our story began more than 170 years ago. In 1846, a large wagon train full of people left Platt County, Missouri to make a new life in the Republic of Texas. This group of pioneers settled in the "Crosstimbers" area, now known as Grapevine-Southlake.
