Wells novel The Island of Dr. Moreau, Island of Lost Souls (1932) is the story of a mad scientist’s attempts to convert wild animals into human beings by way of vicious medical procedures.
Summaries. A mad doctor conducts ghastly genetic experiments on a remote island in the South Seas, much to the fear and disgust of the shipwrecked sailor who finds himself trapped there. After his ship goes down, Edward Parker is rescued at sea.
Dr. Moreau: What is the law? Sayer of the Law: Not to spill blood, that is the law. Are we not men? “Are we not men?”. That question is at the heart of the 1932 Island of Lost Souls, the first adaptation of the H.G. Wells novel and (for all the changes from the novel) still the defining one.
Jan 26, 2017 · My Bloody Reviews Verdict. Island of Lost Souls, the first and best screen adaptation of H.G. Well’s book The Island of Dr. Moreau, is still an impressive beast eighty years after it was made. With a delicious turn from Charles Laughton as the nature-fiddling doctor there’s much to admire about director Erle C. Kenton’s movie.
In Erle Kenton’s The Island of Lost Souls (1932), Lota, the puma/panther character, soon enraptures Edward. Moreau throws the two together in an attempt to find out if his hybrid can become more human by falling in love with and mating with a human man.
