A. Ivy Hill Cemetery is a private, non-denominational cemetery founded in 1856. It is a 501 (c) (13) incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Ivy Hill provides a peaceful environment for the comfort of its grieving families, and a place of honor and respect for its deceased, amid a beautiful, natural landscape.
Richmond, VA 23219. Industry. Media. Established in 1856, Ivy Hill Cemetery is the final resting place for more Confederate veterans than any other Alexandria cemetery. Among those buried at Ivy Hill are Frank Stringfellow, a noted spy and scout for Gen. Jeb Stuart, and C. S. Navy Capt. Sidney Smith Lee.
As a bequest in the settlement of an estate, Ivy Hill was established as a community burial ground in 1856. It is a beautiful, historic, "church yard" style cemetery located in the heart of what is now a prime residential area of the city of Alexandria. In the last half of the 19th century Ivy Hill was out in the country on farm land.
