History. In 1813, Cape Girardeau County succeeded Cape Girardeau District, and the Court of Common Pleas and the Court of General Quarter-Sessions of the Peace in Cape Girardeau were superseded by the Court of Common Pleas, leading to a new seat of justice.
The Cape Girardeau County Historical Society opened their History Center in Uptown Jackson in 2015 thanks to perpetual financial support from the Shelby & Mildred Brown Trust. The Center displays rotating exhibits of regional interest including: military, biographical, organizational, school, church, and other topics.
The 1881 history of Jackson County says that Blue County was an early name for Jackson County. No doubt there was no formal organization of the county, even though the name County was used. Obviously the name Blue came from the name of the principal river.
