Maria Magdalena van Beethoven, née Keverich (19 December 1746 – 17 July 1787) was the wife of the Bonn court musician Johann van Beethoven, and the mother of the composer Ludwig van Beethoven. Her birthplace is now a museum, the Mutter-Beethoven-Haus .

Maria married a certain Johann Laym, valet to the Elector of Trèves, in 1763 when she was sixteen. She bore him one son who died in infancy. In November 1765 her husband died. Thus, by the age of 18, Maria was already a widow and mother - which certainly counted against her when Johann van Beethoven introduced her to his father, the Kapellmeister.
Johann van Beethoven met the young widow Maria Magdalena Leym in Ehrenbreitstein. The two had fallen in love quickly and just two years after the death of her first husband, in 1767 they got married in the church of St. Remigius, in Bonn.
