The Kanheri Caves (Kānherī-guhā [kaːnʱeɾiː ɡuɦaː]) are a group of caves and rock-cut monuments cut into a massive basalt outcrop in the forests of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, on the island of Salsette in the western outskirts of Mumbai, India.

Oct 21, 2019 · The Kanheri Caves are a series of caves and rock dugouts cut in an extensive basalt outcrop in Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Mumbai, India. The caves contain relief carvings, inscriptions, sculptures, and paintings dating back to between 1 and 11 century AD.
The walls of many of the Kanheri Caves are sculpted with huge images and statues, including one of a standing Buddha and another image of Bodhisattva, which was carved somewhere around 5th to 6th centuries AD.
