KEN KEELER - Leader, banjo, guitar. A former pilot for the USAF and TWA, Ken is retired from an industrial sales career in electronics instrumentation, and continues life as a farmer and freelance musician/ band manager. As a boy, he played banjo and mandolin in the family square dance band, backing his father as dance caller.

Ken and Jean performed as a duo (banjo/guitar and piano) for private parties in the early 80's, and the duo expanded into the Devil Mountain Jazz Band in 1982. They soon became friends with Wally Rose, learning more about the old music, especially the West Coast Revival styles of Lu Watters and Turk Murphy.

“Keeler calling” was the sound that started every square dance. Often his calling was accompanied by the family band, The Happy Humdingers, which included Lois on accordion, daughter Mollie on fiddle and son Kenny on banjo and trombone. Kenny is now a Dixieland musician of some fame on the west coast.
