Linus is the titular protagonist of the 2023 musical short film The Brave Locomotive. He is a sentient blue 2-4-0 American steam tender locomotive.
Linus is shown to be a cheerful train, enjoying spending time with his best friend and engineer Henry McCloud and being cautious not running over a tortoise. After Samson took his place in transporting people as to modernize the train traffic by the Baron Von Kapital, Linus fell into depression, reluctantly working as a lumberyard train, forced to work by a abusive driver.
Once he saw Samson, his engineer and the others in danger, he decided to do the right thing by breaking free from his abusive driver by sawing the chains and at full speed driving towards the broken bridge in spite of a hole in his boiler by the guard shooting him. After moving the passenger carts away he sacrificed himself by letting Henry and the Baron's daughter fill him maximum with coal until he exploded by overheating and dragging the bigger Samson.
Being a train, he can travel at great speed depending how much coal he is loaded with. He also require no driver to operate him at times.
•He's mainly inspired by Thomas and Casey Jr in design, he has the blue color of the former and overall appearance of the latter. The difference is he got larger eyes and no nose.
•His face is 2D animated while the rest of him is 2D and CGI mixed.

Set in 1895, the film centers on Linus, a little blue passenger train's locomotive, and his friend, a driver named Henry, as they go through the grueling process of obsolescence, and struggle to preserve their little western town after Linus gets replaced by a much larger locomotive named Samson.
The angler explains what happens to one of his old friends to Linus, Linus decides to go back and try to convince Henry to work with him again.
