The band was formed in 1999 by guitarist, songwriter and vocalist Steve Schiltz; guitarist Shannon Ferguson; bassist David Marchese; and drummer Jeremy Greene. The band was active from 1999 to 2008. As of 2018 the band had reformed and was recording new music. [1]

Longwave formed at the dawn of the New York indie rock resurgence in 1999. The Brooklyn-based band has made many records and toured all over the world. After a years-long hiatus, Longwave returned in 2019 with "If We Ever Live Forever", and in 2020 with "Live at the Bowery Ballroom".
